From the moment you step inside the foyer and living room of Kate Spade Valentine's Upper East Side apartment – which, as points out, "could be apartments in and of themselves" – it's clear that the founder of and the designer behind (she changed her last name to promote the new label) takes the same kaleidoscopic approach to home design as she does to fashion and accessories.
The apartment is filled from floor to ceiling with an eclectic collection of art – including some pages drawn by Kate's own daughter next to gallery-worthy pieces. "I feel like she deserves as much credit in this room, so I wanted her work to feel important," she says.
But perhaps her most interesting collection of all is her cigarette cases. "We don't use them, I just think they look pretty," she adds. Some were her mother's; others have been accumulated over time. Of course, a collection of ashtrays accompanies them.
