A British woman is engaged to wed a chandelier she won in an online auction. But, don’t fret — she says the 24 other chandeliers she’s dating aren’t jealous about it.
Amanda Liberty met the light of her life, 90-year-old chandelier, “Lumiere,” on eBay and, without a flickering of doubt, “knew immediately that she was the one for me,” she told .
The thirty-three year old spent $500 to ship her darling over from Germany to her Leeds home (“I knew I needed to find a way to make her mine”), which she shares with the other chandeliers in her life.
“She had been disassembled for her own safety, but once I put all her pieces together and she settled into her new home, our relationship just went from strength to strength,” Liberty said.
She proposed last Valentine’s Day to signify her undying love. Despite being more of a Tiffany lamp than a Tiffany engagement person, Liberty still hopes to have a commitment ceremony. Perhaps in Paris, the city of...you get the picture.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about her and how beautiful she was — she has such a beautiful shape and I could feel really amazing energy coming from her,” Liberty said.
Liberty’s hooked on “kisses and cuddles” with Lumiere but doesn’t take her much-older partner to bed at night. She instead turns off with Jewel, a chandelier who is much more “portable.” A shining compliment.
Liberty is an Objectum Sexual — someone who is sexually attracted to inanimate objects. “People often can’t understand that this is just a natural orientation for me, that I can find the beauty in objects and can sense their energy," she said about her attractions.
This is her first engagement “so it’s very new and exciting,” but she’s previously pledged her love to another woman — the Statue of Liberty — going as far as changing her surname by deed poll to “Liberty” to show her commitment to the 305-foot tall monument.
Despite six visits to the green lady, the long-distance relationship didn’t work out, hence the very reasonable move to light fixtures. .
“I’ve always loved the look of chandeliers and when I saw my first chandelier, Luna, it was love at first sight. You can’t control who you fall in love with and things just went from there,” she said.
Liberty dreams of working in the Buckingham Palace — home of London’s other big engagement story — to tend to the massive chandeliers there.
