Stock up on champagne. "You definitely don't want to run out — and make sure you have enough flutes for everyone. I also like to set up a bar cart with all the drinks and mixers on it, so guests can fix themselves a cocktail or get a glass of wine. That way, you don't have to spend all evening filling everyone up." -

Don't overthink it. "Order a case of champagne, grab a few dozen votive candles, dim the lights, and create an incredible playlist on your sound system: It's an instant party. For a lasting memory, create a "Selfie" wall that is decorated for guest to take their Facebook and Instagram photos!" -

Let your guests call the shots. "A party with a few self-serve bars makes for fun activity and conversational flow, as people can make the rounds from bar cart to counter top to table top, and try different cocktails they mixed themselves." -

Focus the festivity in one room. "New Year's Eve parties should be fun, not formal! Decide which room you want to host your party in and turn it on its head by switching out your pillows, repurposing those chic mini holiday trees, and serving small bites on mirrored or metallic trays." -

Finger food is key. "Nobody expects a sit-down meal at a New Year's Eve party. Serve simple hot and cold hors d'oeuvres all evening long, emphasis on simple. Additionally, have a food station area where people can pick at the essentials — meat, cheese and the like." - Lindsey Katalan of

More is more when it comes to balloons. "Get as many silver mylar helium balloons as you can get your hands on! I did this for a New Year's Eve party I designed at the Soho House in LA. We covered every inch of the ceiling with silver balloons, I stole the idea from Andy Warhol and it looked amazing. Very simple and chic." -

Forget the overly polished decor. "In addition to having fabulous champagne glasses, bubbly for days, and hats, I like to make the space feel like it has already hosted a party — think: confetti on the floors and balloons cascading from the ceiling." -

Remember the evening starts at your entryway. "Always have gorgeous large, silver buckets filled with champagne and lots of rose petals sprinkled about. I often have rose petals or candles line the path to the entry of a party, but you can also line the path with paper lanterns that you set off at midnight." -

Give your oven the night off. "Celebrate the new year with exotic nibbles that you can buy in bulk at the grocery store or order in to make the night special. I'm a big fan of Chinese and Thai for the occasion. We're all pooped after celebrating Christmas, so slaving over a hot stove to whip up New Year's Eve hors d'oeuvres is the last thing you should be thinking of." -

Try a color-based theme. "I am really feeling white feathers right now and would go for an all-out white theme with lots of texture, and some silver and gold mixed in for good measure. Candles galore, a roaring fire, champagne and some sort of roast would round out the night." -
