The 10 Best Cities For Married Couples

If your marriage isn't working, you may be in the wrong zip code.

If it takes two people to make a marriage work, then it takes five numbers to keep it on track, according to , who recently explored whether location and matrimony coincide.

Using data from the U.S. Census, Movoto honed in on the zip codes boasting the most marriages, and while every couple has their own secret and every divorced one has their own cautionary tale, outside influences (in this case, where a couple lives) could play a significant role as well.

To determine which cities ranked highest, the real estate site pulled data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey from 2009 to 2013 and marital status counts for anyone age 15 and older across 32,655 zip codes. From there, they created an algorithm based on the following criteria:

Not-married people (the lower the better)

Married people (the higher the better)

Separated people (the lower the better)

Widowed people (the lower the better)

Divorced people (the lower the better)

Tarawar Terrace, a suburb of Jackson, NC, took the top spot with the highest percentage of married people at 92.9 percent. They also have zero divorces, according to the data Movoto pulled. But as the notes, the area is chock full of military families — it's the largest enlisted community in Jacksonville — which means turnover could be higher than other neighborhoods, skewing the data set a bit.
