The day has come: Fast food is spa food. That is, if you visit one particular Burger King in Finland.
The Western Hemisphere just discovered that the Finnish have been ordering burgers with a side of heat — not hot sauce, but a full-service sauna donned in the classic Burger King colors of red, blue, and orange — since it opened in the country's capitol, Helsinki, in November.
The sauna includes a television, high-quality audio equipment, and a PlayStation 4, a shower room and dressing room. The space, which can hold 15 people, also houses a meeting area, in case you'd care to eat hamburgers, sweat, and collaborate with your closest friends and colleagues at the same time.
"At first I thought the idea was almost absurd, but just crazy enough for me," Finnish interior designer Teuvo Loman, who designed the sauna, said in a statement. "This is one of my most interesting pieces of work this year, and it's great to be the first in the world to do something."
No need to hold everything but the lettuce on your Whopper; you can still enjoy all your choice Burger King entrees at the spa. reports the staff will deliver a cheeseburger or whatever else you order to you in the sauna.
Scratching your head? Keep in mind that the sauna is a key element of Finnish culture. According to , there are 3.3 million saunas found in homes, hotels, offices, factories, sports centers, and even underground mines in the country of just 5.3 million people. Finland considers saunas such an important part of well-being that one Finnish proverb proclaims: If a sick person is not cured by tar, spirits, or sauna, then they will die. Well, there you go.
If you're Finland-bound and want to hit the sauna, you'll need to in advance — tickets start at $285 USD for a three-hour block. It's not exactly a Value Menu price, but hey, it's the only fast food sauna in the world. That's got to be worth something... right?
