Homesense, the spinoff store from the popular décor chain HomeGoods, launched last year and was met with an enthusiastic response. The store is very similar to HomeGoods, but more streamlined and curated, with a "fancier" feel to it overall, and more of an emphasis on furniture. And it's been so successful that its parent company is planning to open hundreds of locations.
The industry publication first reported the news, which the company announced on an earnings call to investors. Ernie Hermann, president and CEO of parent company TJX, said on the call that the reaction has been "terrific" and that they ultimately plan to open 400 more stores. But not all at once.
This year, TJX will open 85 more HomeGoods stores and 15 more Homesense stores across the country. "We see an enormous opportunity for growth," Hermann reportedly said on the call. "We believe we are still under-penetrated in home, and we see lots of white space we can move into."
Currently, there are only four Homesense stores in the United States: one in Framingham, Massachusetts, one in Westwood, Massachusetts, one in East Hanover, New Jersey, and one in Ocean, New Jersey. TJX has a brand called Homesense in other countries, but it's similar to HomeGoods in the States.
There's no official word as to where all the new Homesense stores will be, but local news reports that there will be opening in the spring and summer, and sometime this year.
