Take a good, hard scroll through your feed of choice — Instagram, Pinterest, whatever floats your boat! — and odds are you'll see these chairs everywhere. They've got a slightly mid-century feel with graceful modern lines; AKA it's a unique piece of furniture that's bound to leave an impression. But where exactly did the design originate? We got right to the source: , the Copenhagen-based design firm that created the Beetle Chair for design company .
"We first found inspiration in the anatomy and aesthetic of the beetle," according the the founders, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi. "We reinterpret the beetle’s hard and characteristic shell and structure in a chair that, like an actual beetle, has a hard exterior and a soft interior. This insect has a very delicate form, but with an important functional aspect."
Although GamFratesi and GUBI are the geniuses behind the original, they're flattered that their design has taken off. "It is an honor for us to see the chair often in very different contexts and unexpected variations, but always keeping the unique and recognizable spirit of the beetle."
